Celebrating 100 Years Of Service

In 2020, the Society celebrated its Centenary and many events were organized to mark this milestone year, paying tribute to our Founder and the many ladies of bygone committees who have served the Society with loyalty and dedication over the past ten decades. The President, Ms. Damayanthi De Alwis Fernando, delivered her speech during the celebration. Another highlight of the event was the presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, accompanied by his wife, along with Mr. Karu Jayasuriya.

Mallika Elders Home

Address : 45, Visaka Road, Colombo 04

The Founder's Day celebrations of the Society are held at Mallika Home. They consist of an all-night 'pirith' on the 7th of October followed by noon 'dana' the next day. Many grans offered 'pirikara' including 'ata pirikara' to the bhikkhus to bestow merit on their departed kith and kin.

We have 71 elders in residence at the Mallika Home. Admission: Age limit is over 65 years of age. Our two special wards, 'Suwa Arana' the total care section of our Home has 20 feeble elders and our Dementia Care Centre has 8 patients.

Religious activities have always been central to the life of our grans. Each Poya Day, a special 'sil' programme is arranged for them. Vesak and Poson Poya days are always very special days on our calendar and the Home is decorated with lanterns and lighted oil lamps. Meditation programmes are held regularly by the Vishwaparami Organisation.

The 'Atavisi Bodhi Puja' is held in April, signifying the date of planting of the Bodhi tree on 28th April. 'Poson Bhakthi Gee' is an annual event and the grannies and staff members and committee members all join in to make it a joyous event. The 'Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta' is chanted each year by Rev. Bhikkhus from the Gangaramaya Temple during the month of the Esala.
